Why Is My Heat Pump Running But Not Cooling Properly?

Your heat pump is likely running but not cooling because of one or more common issues: a dirty filter, low refrigerant, a miscalibrated thermostat, blocked outdoor unit, or a clogged condensate drain. Our Dayton, OH technicians routinely check these during tune-ups, including refrigerant levels, thermostat calibration, filter service, coil cleaning, and electrical connections.

Quick checks:

  • Replace or clean the air filter.
  • Clear leaves/debris around the outdoor unit (2–3 feet).
  • Set thermostat to Cool and verify temperature setpoint.
  • Look for water around the air handler (possible drain clog).
